To get you

from the book.
Syrup Cycle
Maple tree of one long spring
buds in lemon-lime, to bring
bursting taste of syrup. Sweet,
proud, and lean, she plants her feet.
Maple leaf in summer sky,
green and juicy, flutters high,
exercising, gripping life,
hiding toughness for the strife.
Maple branch of fifty years
drizzles autumn's copper tears.
She
has seen the saddest scenes.
Bittersweet, her torso leans.
Maple limb in winter sky
shakes the wind off, asking why
every leaf must fade and freeze -
cools her heels till April breeze.
