Are you an idealist?

Sarah Louise Yagi

The other day a friend of mine told me she would never publish her own work.  She is still dreaming about some big publisher knocking down her door to make her a best-seller author. The world has changed as confirmed by these words I read in one publisher’s press release:

The long-standing bias against self-publishing has crumbled over the last few years. Today, self-published works are given same status as traditionally published works by most book reviewers. Books are judged on their content and appeal, not their corporate ownership.

So for those of you out there who accept this reality and have your material ready to format, here is a good place to start.  For a very practical article that will spur you on to present your work to a (our) publisher (of course), check out this the link to

Ten Tips on formatting your book for a self-publisher.

http://www.associatedcontent.com/article/133519/ten_tips_on_formatting_your_book_for.html

The article is concise and practical and will start you on the journey you may have been hesitant to begin.  That being said, keep in mind, these are only tips and not a comprehensive solution to all your formatting needs. It may, though, give you some energy to take action toward your goal.  There are also links and self-publishing helps on our site’s favorite links list and any number of good sites on the Internet.  I will do my best to direct you to some of them as I research the possibilities.
