First Place

April May Dance Until June.

by Leadaches

April's golden tresses
grace willow trees

and bless forsythia tips
near my mountain porch,
my heavenly perch.
My dog catches zzzz's
paws moving to
squirrelly-cued dreams,
but melted snow rushes
faster to the
river

flowing towards valleys below.
Clouds almost touch my world
misting pastures,
while a rainbow bends to color
their gray and white canvas.
Summer slowly ascends
slopes below me
bearing the scent
of honeysuckle and devil's paintbrush.
I remain a speck of flesh
a pigment of imagination
on God's incredible palette,
trying to capture his marvels on
pounded, ground up remnants
of trees I've never climbed.

Second Place

A Sprig in Time by Ron Buck

Somewhere in the dividing
stream of consciousness,
there is a painted dog
tied to the porch
of a mountain cabin,
barking at the unlikely
scent of rainbow clouds
overlooking the upswing
shiver of green trees,
as the Summer
snow melts into
the plush loins
of the pulsing
river.

Third Place

Dog Eared Pages of Time by wordwench

With Atlas on knees,
the elderly mountain woman
stared outside, past her porch,
watching a Walker hound
push snow with his
near frozen nose.

She craved the scent of the sea,
a rainbow, and a river
for the dog to splash in.

Chin-to-chest, she dreamed
of an inlet where trees,
long arms of oak,
stretched beyond a bluff,
shading a place where
she lay with a man
watching clouds marble
an azure summer sky.

As the book tumbled to the hearth
its sound erased her reverie.
The tattered page was lost,
but not her memories.
